With Tim Tebow’s unprecedented winning streak ever since turning quarterback, fans have been following the games intently, expecting yet one more win after another.

In fact, his last-minute comebacks have resulted in more tweets per second compared to last year’s Super Bowl, the death of Osama bin Laden, or the recent natural catastrophe in Japan.

In addition to the tweeting fever, Tebow tattoos, music videos, and comedy sketches have become almost viral on the web. In fact, Google recorded the Bible verse John 3:16 as its top search for one day simply as a result of the quarterback’s throwing for 316 yards. The 24-year-old NFL player has resulted in terms like “Tebowie,” “Tebowing,” and “TebowTube” becoming common language on the Internet.

Finally, his loss-less record met a wall with the game against the New England Patriots.

It would seem that tweets about “Tebow Time,” which had reached their peak during the overtime game with the Pittsburgh Steelers back on January 8, was brought to a startling halt at the Saturday game with the Patriots. If anything, the tweets seemed to have been reduced to a murmur, with Tebow’s playoff time seen to be over.

Instead of the Tebow Time tweets, Shaun Ellis, the Patriots defensive end who kept Tebow from making another last-minute win, received all the attention, following the Patriots’ dramatic whopping of 45-10…

Of course, Tebow comebacks have been seen before. For example, following six straight wins, the Boncos ended the regular season with three losses, along which went their control of their destiny at the playoffs. But a win over the Oakland Raiders let the Broncos advance, resulting in the legend picking up again.

Would Tebow make his way back to top spot in Twittersphere this 2012? Interestingly, Focus on the Family, an evangelical Christian organization, once zoomed in on the interest in John 3:16 by airing a commercial in the Super Bowl spot, featuring Tebow and his mom delivering a pro-life message for the family.

But experts seem to notice that the commercial was not that on-target in terms of how Tebow is viewed in the social media world. For example, although Tebow regularly makes tweets that are related to Bible verses, which his over 1 million followers obviously read, only an estimate of 7% of the social media talk about Tebow has to do with religion, based on studies done by Social Media group, a company based in Toronto.

While the ESPN shows that the newest favourite athlete in the United States might have a captured audience for sharing his beliefs, it is still apparent that his left arm has the greater influence.

Of course, that left arm might have succumbed to a faulty throw in the game with the Patriots. In fact, by half time, he had only completed 3 out of 10 passes over 28 yards, while Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had already tossed five out of six passes for a touchdown.

Perhaps the defense ranked 31st in the NFL was just not possible for Tebow to overcome this time.

“They played well,” Tebow said, adding that he was thanking his teammates for their effort even if things did not seem to go well for them.

Denver coach John Fox was quoted as saying, “I was really proud of what he showed.”
